Frozen Hot Chocolate

The Valentine's Day marketing is working because I can't stop craving chocolate. Or maybe the yucky weather has me needing an extra hit of serotonin. Whatever the reason, I want to share a new-to-me Ina Garten recipe that will satisfy all your chocolate cravings. I'm not sure if Ina is attempting a dupe of Serendipity 3's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, but it tastes like a perfect match to the iconic New York dessert. You essentially make your own chocolate syrup, then blend it with milk, ice, vanilla, and coffee.

I used Kahlua, but you could substitute freshly brewed espresso to keep it alcohol-free.

Top with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings for a decadent dessert. Ina's recipe says it serves 4, but you could easily get 6 drinks from one batch.

Whipped Cream

1 cup cold heavy cream

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip cream on high speed until it starts to thicken. Add sugar and vanilla and continue whipping until firm. This will keep in the fridge for a few hours.

Serve in fountain glasses, if you have them. My grandmother, Randy, gave me this set with butterflies.

Thanks for reading!
